Municipal Development Plan Review Project

The Town of Olds has started a process to review and update the Town of Olds Municipal Development Plan. The current plan was last updated in 2006/2007 and much has changed over the past 10 years.
The Municipal Development Plan Review process is intended to assess the current policies and direction of the 2006/2007 Municipal Development Plan to determine what is working as intended and what may be in need of adjustment. The process involves seeing if the policies still fit the desired direction of the community.

Why is the Municipal Development Plan important?
The Municipal Development Plan guides and directs future physical growth and development, ensuring that it is orderly, economical and beneficial while balancing the environmental, social and economic needs and desires of the community. It is visionary, strategic and long-term in its outlook and application. The Municipal Development Plan should reflect the kind of community residents wish to see in the future and identify ways to achieve this future. It provides a policy framework for the growth and development of the community far into the future. A thirty (30) year period is the minimum planning horizon typically considered. Who is leading the Process?
Town of Olds Council is leading the process with assistance from Town Administration and Parkland Community Planning Services. As the steering committee for the process, Council will review materials and provide direction throughout the process. This includes collecting public input and selecting approaches that will serve the community well into the future.

What stage is the process at?
The Updates and Initial Assessment and the Shaping Possible Policy Changes and Directions stages of the process are now complete. An Open House was held in June 2017 as part of the initial stages of the review process.
The Municipal Development Plan Review is now in the Public Consultation and Input stage of the process. This stage is expected to be complete by June 2018.
How can I be involved?
There are several ways for you to participate in the Municipal Development Plan Review process. Please take advantage of the following opportunities:
Copies of the draft 2018 Municipal Development Plan and Development Concept along with the 2007 Municipal Development Plan and materials from the June 2017 open house are available for viewing by clicking on the highlighted text.
As part of the Municipal Development Plan review, Town Council has also asked that options to create additional tree reserve areas be identified for further discussion. An information brief on the topic has been prepared, and can be viewed at the open house or by clicking the links below.
