Contact - Planning & Development
Planning & Development is a section within Core Services Department that also includes Engineering, Public Works & Utilities, and Parks & Sportsfields. The Planning section of the Core Services Department manages growth and development of the Town of Olds. The department reviews bylaws, subdivisions and development applications, and ensures compliance with the Municipal Development Plan, Area Structure Plans, and the Town's Land Use Bylaw.

Public Hearing Notice – June 11, 2018 at 1:00 pm
Bylaw 2018-13 proposes amending the Land Use Bylaw by redesignating Lot 6, Block 1, Plan 151 1656, from Light Industrial District (I1) to Direct Control District 7 (DC7) which is specific to the use and development of a medical marijuana facility.
Public Hearing Notice – May 28, 2018 at 6:00 pm
Bylaw 2018-12 proposes amending Land Use Bylaw 01-23 by redesignating 17 Imperial Close, from Light Industrial District (I1) to Direct Control 7 District 7 (DC7) which is specific to the use and development of a medical marijuana facility.
Municipal Development Plan Review
The Town of Olds has started a process to review and update the Town of Olds Municipal Development Plan. Town Council, Town Administration, and Parkland Community Planning Services will be collecting public input and selecting approaches that will serve the community well into the future. Details here.
Southeast Industrial Area Structure Plan Review
The Town of Olds has started a process to review and update the Southeast Industrial Area Structure Plan (ASP). The Southeast Industrial ASP was written in 2001 with the last update completed in 2015. The Southeast Industrial Area Structure Plan Review process is intended to assess the current policies and direction of the 2015 Southeast Industrial Area Structure Plan and to update these to reflect the vision for the future of the Southeast Industrial area. The Offsite Levy Bylaw describes a levy which is imposed upon all undeveloped lands lying within the municipal boundary of the Town of Olds except land designated as: an Environmental Reserve, a Municipal Reserve, an Arterial Road Right-of-Way, and a Wetlands Designated By Provincial Policy - June 2015, (Assessment).
Land Use Bylaw #01-23 regulates and controls the use and development of land and buildings. Development services include processing development and building permits, certificates of compliance, land use bylaw amendments and providing development information to the public.
Planning is responsible for ensuring that growth and development occurs in an organized, rational manner while maintaining and enhancing the quality of life in Olds.
