|The Town of Olds has budgeted over $3 million dollars for construction on recreational reserve lands in northwest Olds. The recreation site is a multi-use regional facility that will accommodate various sports fields for both recreational and competitive play.
The new park will have athletic fields developed for soccer, baseball diamonds, horseshoe pits, a playground, and washroom facilities. The recreation site will be well integrated with the surrounding community through a series of on-street and off-street pathways that provide direct connections to the site. In addition, pathway networks within the recreation site will tie various uses together and allow efficient movement through the site. The area available to develop for playing fields and amenities is two parcels approximately 33.35 acres.
These types of facilities will meet our community needs leading into the next quarter century, support activity and encourage an active healthy lifestyle, and be a part of the development growth of the community. The concept plans were developed through community consultations.
Municipal financial contributions will build the base level facilities reflecting the overall community recreation needs. Monies raised through community and corporate fundraising will go towards enhancing the amenities in addition to the municipal contribution.
There is an aptitude in our community of stretching government financial commitments with the contributions of donors, sponsors, corporations, small and medium sized businesses, people, families and foundations.
The Town of Olds could not do what it does without the support of a caring community and individuals willing to step up to make a difference. Thank you for your support for the Olds Athletic Park and being part of moving this initiative from good to great.
